MAKING A POWERFUL DIFFERENCE IN ONE COMMUNITY

THE FIRST WEEK OF MAY IS NATIONAL SMALL BUSINESS WEEK – a time to recognize all the small businesses that fuel downriver communities, and the people who make them go.

The city of Flat Rock has some sterling examples of just how big an impact small, independent, and locally owned businesses can make in one community.

Scott Little (Superior Heating & Cooling), Gino Lucia (GLC Landscaping), Brittney Signorelli (Instinct Salon), Jaramie and Shanna Wiegert (S&J Cupcakery), and Bob and Danielle Remer (Remer Construction) share a couple of common connections. Each of them own successful small businesses in Flat Rock but even more remarkably, they’re all graduates of Flat Rock High School.

RATHER THAN PUTTING THEIR HOMETOWN IN THE REARVIEW MIRROR OF LIFE, THESE ENTREPRENEURS ARE COLLECTIVELY HELPING RESHAPE AND REVIVE THEIR HOMETOWN.

That action alone speaks volumes about the impact small businesses have on the lives and the flavor of a community. Small businesses like theirs have helped to create Flat Rock’s own unique personality, a fact that residents and consumers recognize. The successes that these five businesses have experienced illustrates not only how tightly small businesses are integrated into their community, but how they’ve become the lifeblood for Downriver towns like Flat Rock.

While we often think of major corporations when it comes to driving innovation and competition, small businesses play a vital role in our nation’s economy all while boosting the overall spirit in communities like Flat Rock. Locally owned and operated businesses scattered throughout main streets in communities throughout the U.S. make up a whopping two-thirds of new jobs in the country.

Patronizing Instinct Salon for making a better you, S&J Cupcakery where confectionary works of art are as delicious as they are attractive, Superior Comfort Heating & Cooling for the best in home comfort services, GLC Landscaping where beautiful landscapes add enjoyment and value to properties or Remer Construction for expert exterior renovations serves our local community by boosting the economy, creating jobs and providing income for the people we call our neighbors. Destination Downriver is grateful for small businesses that positively impact our economy and the Downriver region we live in.
