Collaboratively Telling Downriver’s Stories

Like everyone emerging from over two years in a pandemic-based environment, we’re all trying to come back better.

Downriver is recovering. Downriver is rebuilding. Downriver is rethinking.

For our region to fully leverage the enormous progress made thus far, we need to communicate, to tell our neighbors, and folks throughout Michigan, what we’ve accomplished and what’s on the horizon for Downriver.

Organized in 2019, Destination Downriver is a coalition of communities working together to change perceptions about a region that has spent the past two decades evolving from its rustbelt past into a greenbelt future. Destination Downriver has developed into the area’s destination marketing organization (DMO) with a mission of doing a job that larger cities, such as Detroit, Cleveland or Chicago, take on through their convention and visitors bureaus.

This is all new territory for a coalition of individual communities who are pooling resources and energy for the greater good of a region. Collaborative communications efforts, like those developed by Destination Downriver, are helping partner communities to do more than tell their stories and talk about their attractions. We are acting as a catalyst in guiding and supporting recovery for local economies. We’re spotlighting businesses and attractions that all help to make this area an ideal and attractive spot to explore and experience.

By creating a distinctive brand for this region, Destination Downriver is helping position our area as an advantageous place to visit, live and do business. Our stakeholder-members are motivated by pride for their communities and a desire to advance economic well-being without sacrificing the values that make downriver such a special place.

Get involved and make a difference!

Downriver businesses, organizations and municipalities are encouraged to download and use the Destination Downriver stamp as we work to brand our region into one that’s united in promoting the businesses, communities, people and experiences that make this area so special. We need input, experience and engagement from organizations and individuals interested in helping us achieve our area-wide transformational goals.
